The 23rd Annual Celebration of Miami Carnival to be staged on Sunday, October 7, 2007 at Bicentennial Park from 12noon-11pm
The Most Popular Caribbean Carnival in North American “Miami Carnival” is Alive and Well and Here to Stay!
Miami-September 2007- Miami Carnival Inc. and The City of Miami will host one of the most anticipated events of the year within the Caribbean culture of Miami, Trinidad and Tobago, London England and the United States. The 23rd Annual Miami Carnival will be staged on Sunday, October 7, 2007 from 12noon-11pm at Bicentennial Park in Downtown Miami. With a cultivated expertise and passion for Carnival, the Miami Carnival Committee has once again set the motions in place to produce one of the biggest events of the year. This international event that brings live bands and calypsonians from the Caribbean Islands has become one of the most popular and well-attended Carnivals in North America. Miami Carnival 2007 will feature more costumes, more bands and more of the top Soca and Chutney Soca stars than one can imagine. This year’s festival promises to influence generations to come to continue the celebration of what Carnival is all about.
This refinement of the traditional West Indian style Carnival presentation promises to celebrate pageantry through color and fantasy that is depicted through a kaleidoscope of vibrant costumes, infectious soca, calypso and reggae music along with the electrifying sounds of steelbands. Miami Carnival has become of the most respected Carnivals that take place with the Caribbean Carnival circuit. This event embodies the unity of the diverse cultures that represent Miami.
“Miami is home to people and cultures from throughout our hemisphere, making our diverse city unique not only in the Americas, but all over the world. Miami Carnival will continue to add and increase the cultural diversity that we enjoy here in Miami. This event has been designed to reflect our cultural heritage and incorporate the traditionally popular Caribbean entertainers. Because of its appeal to the entire Caribbean community, there are more Caribbean entertainers at Miami Carnival than at any other Carnival including Trinidad & Tobago-Caribbean Carnival’s “Mecca” states Mayor Many Diaz”.
Selman Lewis, CEO of Miami Carnival, said that “Miami Carnival 2007 will be bigger and better than any previous year. We are happy to be back in Bicentennial Park, and we invite the whole community to celebrate our 23rd Anniversary with us”.
-more-
The event will begin at 12 noon with a parade of bands and costumes that will begin on NE 2nd Ave and NE 27th Ave. The parade will eventually go into the festival area of Bicentennial Park where the celebration of Caribbean culture and pride will be displayed by a Caribbean Consular Village and
International Caribbean Carnival Expo that will include a multitude of Caribbean and International food, beverages and arts and crafts.
The stage at Bicentennial Park will permeate an infectious grove of music that will display the talents of some of the biggest heavy weights in the Caribbean community and the world. Miami Carnival will feature The Queen of Soca, Alison Hinds & The Alison Hinds Show, Iwer George (2007 Soca Monarch), Biggie Irie (2007 Groovy Soca Monarch), Shadow, Nelson, Crossovah, Jovi Rockwell, Whysper, Gailann, Wendy Lewis Mollineau(UK Soca Queen, London Calyspo Monarch), Curtis Eustace,(T&T King of Carnival), Invaders Steel Orchestra(Direct from Trinidad and Tobago), Miami Pan Symphony, New Generation Branches Steel Orchestra and Pepper Pot Steel Orchestra to name a few.
Some of the sponsors of the 23rd Annual Miami Carnival include The City of Miami, The Mayor and Board of City Commissioners, Miami Dade Mayor and Commissioner Dennis Moss and The Board of County Commissioners, The Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau, AFIWI.com, Bayfront Park Management Trust, Guinness Extra Stout (The Official Beer of Miami Carnival), Bernuth Lines, Delancyhill and The International Caribbean Carnival Association

Footwear Continued...
Yesterday I went shopping for my Miami weekend. I was very successful with the shoe hunt, I bought a pair of Champions from Payless for...(drum roll) $8 Dollars!!!! How can you beat that? I think that they should go perfect with the costume. If not, shoooooooooot, I have a lot of green shirts that will match them.
What do you think???
I think I'm going to change the laces to Gold If I can find them.

Sooooold out!
I'm so happy! Peacock is sold out!!! YaY!!!
Also very surprising to me. Birds of Paradise section is sold out too. That was my least favorite. Cockatoo is very close to selling out too, it will be a good day :-)
Youy can still get your costumes. One of my girls chickened out and went for the one piece. Apparently its a one piece with the cut outs on the sides. We will seeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
Less than a month to go!!! So Excited!!!

Miami Vs Broward
Wow! Saucy Trini kinda put me on the spot, so I guess I better keep bloggin!!!
Ok, so here is the scoop:
It turns out that Miramar City Commission has rejected Broward's plan to hold carnival in Miramar Regional Park, citing that the garbage left behind last year is the reason for their refusal. At this time it seems that Broward doesn't have a venue! Wow! Do you know what that means? It means that perhaps, maaaaaybe Carnival will only be in Miami this year, which would be great! More people, more fun, more mas bands more Bacchanal!!!
The count in my party has officially risen to 7. Another girlfriend from Toronto will be coming down to play in the peacock section with me and my girls. We are still so excited. I STILL haven't bought my shoes yet, but I am still on the look out.
For those who are interested in playing with other Mas Bands, I found that the list I got from Miamicarnival.net had some out-of-date websites. The reason for this is Myspace, it's a lot cheaper to throw it up there than actually have a website. Lazy asses. Whatever. Here are the links:
Wassi Ones
If I had found this earlier, I might've gone with this band. Sexy fo sho, but from what I can see, no male costumes:

TnT Misfits
Very sketchy, but hey, Costumes are only 100 bucks. Tell me how it goes

Shoes, Footwear Kicks Etc...
Now that I am all set with my costume, the task at hand is a mission to find the most comfortable shoes to go with it. I am at a disadvantage because I haven't actually seen the costume in person. How will I know what exact shade of green to purchase? I've read a number of articles about wearing boots to Carnival, Doc Martens, Go-Go boots...and I just can't wrap my head around how in the world that would be comfortable!!! I've worn boots before, being a native Canadian, it comes with the territory, but insole or no insole, after a couple hours, boots start fi bun!!!! My original idea was to order shoes from either Nike.com or K-Swiss.com and have them personalized to commemorate the weekend and my birthday, but now I'm not so sure.
Here's what I've come up with so far:
